We would like to promote the habit of reading among the users of IISP. It is said that better readers create better thinkers and better world to live in. This week, we have invited children's author-Ms. Swati Sengupta to visit us and interact with the children on Thursday, the 30th of November.
SWATI SENGUPTA is an author and journalist based in Kolkata. She writes fiction and non-fiction books for the young and the grown-ups and could not decide which is more fun! Her published books are Out of War, Half the Field Is Mine (Scholastic, 2014), Guns on My Red Earth and The Talking Bird.
Swati studied English at Jadavpur University and then worked as a journalist for 14 years for various newspapers in Kolkata, including The Times of India and The Telegraph. She is now a Contributing Editor, Huffington Post India, and has also contributed to The New York Times’ blog on India, Caravan, Scroll.in, The Telegraph among others. Swati runs aworkshop series on gender for the young called Elephant In The Room, and is now spearheading the very successful Dear Boys project in schools of Kolkata with the support of Kolkata Police by addressing gender issues with teenage boys. She loves small towns, tea and the chirping of birds, and lives in a brave and beautiful world in which girls and boys do not carry out gender-specific roles.
